Opening of the temporary exhibition “Klezmer Vibrations in Transylvania”

Sunday, December the 10th 2023, the temporary exhibition “Klezmer Vibrations in Transylvania” was officially opened. The speakers during the event were Flavia Craioveanu, co-founder and director of Muzeon and Dan Craioveanu, co-founder and technical director.

The main subject of the exhibition is the klezmer pieces from Maramureș, collected by Max Eisikovits, composer and musicologist born in Blaj in 1908, who was rector of the Music Conservatory in Cluj and Director of the Hungarian State Opera in Cluj. His collection of Hasidic music, documented between 1938 and 1939, was recently published under the title “És a halottak újra énekelnek…” (And the dead sing again…) and has left an invaluable imprint on klezmer music.

Some of these Jewish songs were performed by Beth Silver, cellist, and Zoe Aqua, violinist, so in addition to the scores written by Eisikovits you can listen to these pieces.

In addition, we provide interesting information about what klezmer music is, its origins and influences. At the same time, in collaboration with the County Museum of Art “Baia Mare Artistic Centre”, two paintings depicting musicians by two artists of the Baia Mare School, namely Béla Iványi Grünwald and Jándi Dávid, are exhibited.

The exhibition can be visited free of charge from December the 10th 2023 to February the 29th 2024, from Tuesday to Sunday, from 10:00 to 18:00, at Muzeon, 3 Virgil Fulicea Street, Cluj-Napoca.
